Frequently asked questions

How is crypto tax calculated in India?

Income from VDA transfers is taxed at 30%, plus 4% health and education cess on the tax. Before surcharge, this is 31.2% of taxable gains. Only acquisition cost is deducted in this estimate; exchange fees are not deducted.

Can I download my crypto tax calculation report?

Yes. After calculating, enter your email to unlock the free report or CSV. No account is required. The report includes gains, losses, income tax, cess, TDS credit and the remaining estimated tax. Open the report and use Print → Save as PDF for a PDF copy. This estimate is not a tax return or exchange transaction statement.

Can crypto losses reduce taxable gains?

This estimate adds gains from profitable transfers separately from losses. Losses do not reduce those taxable gains and cannot be carried forward. Do not enter your net annual profit in the gains field.

Is 1% TDS an extra tax?

TDS under Section 194S is a tax credit, not an additional tax. Enter the actual TDS already deducted and available as credit in your tax records. The calculator subtracts that credit once from the estimated tax and shows any potential excess credit.

When does the TDS threshold apply?

Section 194S generally provides annual consideration thresholds of ₹50,000 for specified payers and ₹10,000 for other payers. Thresholds depend on the payer, not your profit. This tool uses actual TDS you enter and does not automatically apply 1% withholding.

Does this cover every crypto tax situation?

This is an estimate for transfers of acquired VDAs by an Indian resident, before surcharge, using INR totals for one financial year. Gifts, mining, staking, airdrops, business income, non-resident treatment and filing adjustments are outside its scope. Confirm your return with a chartered accountant.
